My first goal was to create a Chinese water color painting, which <a title=\"Art Morning\" href=\"http:\/\/v2.shelbymoulden.com\/blog\/2011\/07\/30\/art-morning\/\">I posted yesterday<\/a>, but the problem with those kinds of works is that they have a lot of waiting time. Water color paintings are all about layers and the bottom layers that are meant to\u00a0recede\u00a0into the background are always lighter which then means a lot of water. My favorite part about Chinese paintings is the solid black more graphic pieces, like the foreground and poem, but I have to wait till the end to do them.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"floatright\">\n<h2>Various Alices&#8217;<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thepartyanimal-blog.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/musical-tea-party.jpg\" alt=\"Disney Alice\" width=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.trepaning.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/03\/alice.jpg\" alt=\"video game Alice\" width=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/2.bp.blogspot.com\/_dH6zd98HBfY\/SmXff9AbguI\/AAAAAAAAAC0\/A_LNC1f9NWU\/s400\/Alice+in+Wonderland.jpg\" alt=\"live action Alice\" width=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<\/aside>\n<p>So while I waited, I decided to make a type piece because I love doing those pieces too. I asked the people around me what I should write and I got a lot of bad puns and old sayings like &#8220;in a while crocodile.&#8221; I ended up with a bad joke I had never heard of. It took me a second to understand it, but I made a chuckle when I did.<\/p>\n<p>The joke actually reminded me of one of my few readers, Cal. He loves bad jokes so he&#8217;ll definitely appreciate this drawing. I even titled this post off of something he would always say to. When reading the title out loud, be sure to say it deep with your throat. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>I added the pastels and diamond pattern because I think of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alice's_Adventures_in_Wonderland\" target=\"_blank\">Alice in Wonderland<\/a> when I think of rabbits. That story is pretty awesome but how it really shines is its immense art capabilities. The <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/File:Alice_par_John_Tenniel_30.png\" target=\"_blank\">art in the original book<\/a> was beautiful to begin with but its free forming enough that people can make it in so many ways.<\/p>\n<p>The typeface itself was meant to symbolize rabbits&#8217; floppy ears. I think it came out looking almost like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jr.co.il\/prayers\/hebrew-idf-prayer.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Hebrew characters<\/a>. Jessica Hische was more successful at making a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jessicahische.is\/designing\/jewyjewness\" target=\"_blank\">typeface that was based on Hebrew letters<\/a> (though she was actually trying to do so).<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, I&#8217;m pretty happy how it came out with not putting too much work into it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-537\" title=\"Unique Rabbit\" src=\"http:\/\/v2.shelbymoulden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/unique_rabbit.gif\" alt=\"How Do You Catch A Unique Rabbit: Unique Up On It\" width=\"580\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/v2.shelbymoulden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/unique_rabbit.gif 580w, https:\/\/v2.shelbymoulden.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/07\/unique_rabbit-300x206.gif 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I made a typographic design based off of a joke my friend told me.
